Tollywood actress eyeing On Malyalam movies

As Telugu actress Anushka Shetty prepares for her Malayalam debut in the horror film ‘Kathanar’, it signals a growing trend of Telugu actresses venturing into new territories. Before her, Tamannaah made her debut in Mollywood with ‘Bandra’, followed by Krithi Shetty of ‘Uppena’ fame, who is slated to appear alongside Tovino Thomas in ‘Ajayante Randam Moshanam’, and Anjali, who left a lasting impression with her performance in ‘Irratta’.

Director Hemanth Madhukar, who collaborated with Anushka Shetty in ‘Nishabhdam’, observes that language and regional barriers are becoming increasingly insignificant. He suggests that Anushka Shetty might have been intrigued by the uniqueness of the script, prompting her to explore Malayalam cinema. Despite her stature in Telugu cinema, she embraced Mollywood knowing her film would reach Telugu audiences.

Discussing the trend of actresses like Tamannaah, Krithi Shetty, and Anjali venturing into Malayalam cinema, Madhukar observes that any actor passionate about their craft would welcome opportunities in Malayalam films. He suggests that these actresses are drawn to Mollywood for its refreshing narratives and the chance to portray diverse characters.

According to Madhukar, Malayalam cinema is flourishing due to its emphasis on content. Films like ‘Premalu’ and ‘Majummel Boys’ have resonated with non-Malayalam audiences, showcasing the innovative storytelling and exceptional performances characteristic of contemporary Malayalam cinema. With subtitles making Malayalam films more accessible on OTT platforms, the industry is once again in the limelight, transcending barriers and captivating audiences beyond its traditional boundaries.
