The much-awaited sports drama ‘Maidaan,’ starring Ajay Devgn and based on real incidents in Indian football, is finally set to hit theaters for Eid on April 10 this year after facing numerous delays. Produced by Boney Kapoor, the film has garnered significant attention.
Initially, Keerthy Suresh was cast as Ajay Devgn’s wife in the film, following their collaboration in ‘Mahanati,’ but by the time filming began, Priyamani replaced her in the role. Speculation arose regarding Keerthy’s departure, with some citing “age issues” as the reason. However, director Amit Ravindranath Sharma clarified that Keerthy’s weight loss didn’t align with the envisioned look for the character, leading to Priyamani’s casting.
‘Maidaan’, featuring Ajay Devgn and Priyamani as the lead pair, also includes Rudranil Ghosh and Gajraj Rao in pivotal roles. The film serves as a biopic sports drama, recounting the life of Syed Abdul Rahim, the Indian football team coach from 1952 to 1962. The cinematography is handled by Tushar Kanti Ray and Fyodor Lyass for sports portions, with Dev Rao Jadhav and Shahnawaz Mosani editing those portions. The musical score is composed by AR Rahman.
