Animal Movie Review, Rating: Animal, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Sandeep Reddy Vanga, created a lot of buzz with its trailer and other promotional materials. The result is visible in the unprecedented advance bookings. This gangster action drama has just hit theaters. Let’s see if this biggie has lived up to the hype.

Story:

Ranvijay Singh Balbir (Ranbir Kapoor) goes to any length to protect his father, Balbir Singh (Anil Kapoor), in the film but the love isn’t reciprocated because Balbir Singh is too preoccupied with his business empire. Ranvijay develops feelings for Geethanjali (Rashmika Mandanna) and begins to live with her. Balbir Singh is attacked all of a sudden. The crux of Animal’s story is how Ranvijay Singh goes to great lengths to protect his father.

Analysis:

Every song is excellent and well-shot. The cinematography is excellent. The action set pieces are well-chosen. Harshavardhan Rameshwar’s captivating background score enhances the impact of many scenes. In the final hour, the editing could have been better, and a few scenes could have been cut.

Sandeep Reddy, the writer-director, delivered an unconventional action drama. The first half is excellent and appealing to all audiences. However, the drama between Ranbir and Rashmika in the second half, as well as the underlying reasons for their conflict, aren’t for everyone. A few sections may also dislike it. The plot isn’t novel, but Ranbir’s performance is what sets the film apart.

Plus Points:

  • Ranbir Kapoor‘s portrayal in Animal is described as brilliant, with the actor showcasing sheer brilliance in a wild and challenging protagonist role
  • An extraordinary conversational scene in the climax is highlighted as a standout moment that leaves a lasting impression on the audience.
  • The first half of the film is highly engrossing, managing to captivate the audience despite its lengthy runtime.
  • Character developments, staging of action sequences, and high moments in the first hour are commended for working effectively.
  • The interval sequence is noted as a peak moment in the film, superbly shot, and enhanced by the terrific background score by Harshavardhan Rameshwar.
  • Rashmika Mandanna is praised for her performance, displaying excellent chemistry with Ranbir Kapoor.

Minus Points:

  • Animal, like Arjun Reddy and Kabir Singh, features bold and crazy scenes, with Sandeep Reddy Vanga taking the wildness to higher levels.
  • The film’s bold scenes are expected to generate discussions, with multiple sequences likely to stir conversations among viewers.
  • Ranbir Kapoor’s character in Animal exhibits depth, leading to peculiar behavior in the second hour, justifying the film’s title by delving into the protagonist’s psyche.
  • Excessive usage of English in the movie is noted as a potential source of irritation for some viewers.
  • The film becomes predictable after a certain point, impacting the overall viewing experience.

Verdict:

Overall, Animal is an intense action drama that will appeal to a certain segment of the audience. The first half contains universally appealing content, but the tonal shifts in the second half may not be to everyone’s liking. Some may be offended by the provocative content and excessive violence. Ranbir Kapoor delivered an award-winning performance as Animal’s heart and soul. Animal’s technical aspects are strong, but Bobby Deol’s characterization could have been improved. Animal is a film worth seeing if you enjoy unconventional and heroic films.
