Amidst the nationwide frenzy over Prabhas’s Salaar last month, a Kannada film not only withstood the Salaar’s wave but emerged as the winner in Karnataka. Darshan’s starrer, Kaatera, released on December 29, 2023, achieved box office success, crossing the Rs 100 Crore mark in Sandalwood. Surpassing Salaar’s Kannada collections. Kaatera established itself as a blockbuster.
After its theatrical run, Kaatera is gearing up its digital premiere on February 9, 2024. Reports indicate that the film’s makers have secured both digital and satellite rights for Zee Network. Initially, there were plans to release the film in Telugu, but recent reports suggest that ZEE intends to release the film with Telugu audio as well. It has to be seen Whether the film will see a theatrical release in Telugu theatres or not.
Set against the rustic backdrop of the 1970’s. Kaatera revolves around a rural issue involving dominant landlords. The protagonist, Kaatera, a blacksmith, fights for farmers’ rights and strives to implement the Land Reforms Act. The film’s narrative unfolds with action-packed scenes, creating substantial anticipation among the audience.
Kaatera has garnered positive reviews from critics and holds the distinction of being the highest-grossing Kannada film of 2023. Directed by Tharun Sudhir, the film is produced by Rockline Venkatesh under the banner of Rockline Entertainments. Sudhakar S. Raj and K. M. Prakash handled cinematography and editing, respectively.
