Hi Nanna Movie Review: Natural Star Nani always tries on different genres. He is now back with the romantic family drama ‘Hi Nanna’. The film features Mrunal Thakur and Baby Kaira Khanna in significant roles. Debutant Shouryuv has directed it. If you are a fan of Nani or have been waiting for the film, here is Hi Nanna Movie Review:

Story: Viraj (Nani) works as a professional photographer. He is also a single parent to his daughter Mahi (Baby Kiara Khanna), who often asks him about her mother. Viraj always changes the topic. He never shares anything about the baby’s mother.

One day, he decides to talk about Mahi’s mother but he keeps a condition that Mahi must first secure the first rank in her class. One day, Mahi scores the first rank, but Viraj is reluctant to open up about her mother. The kid, in a huff, leaves the house, only to bump into Yashna (Mrunal Thakur), who saves her from an accident. What happens after Yashna enters the father-daughter duo’s life is what forms the rest of the story.

Performances: Nani sinks his teeth into the character and delivers a stellar performance. He melts everyone’s heart with his character and performance. Mrunal Thakur and Nani’s on-screen chemistry are superb, they look so adorable, thanks to the costumes and visuals.

Mrunal Thakur is amazing and there is no doubt about it. Baby Kiara Khanna steals the limelight with her cute dialogue delivery. Priyadarshi and others are apt.

Plus Points:

  • Nani, Kiara Khanna are the show-stoppers
  • Mrunal Thakur’s screen presence
  • Hesham’s BGM is soulful
  • Dialogues
  • The last 30 minutes.

Negatives:

  • The narration is slow-paced.
  • The first half is boring largely. Only the interval twist works.

Analysis:

Hi Nanna comes at a time when crime thrillers and violent films have been the season’s flavor. Nani doesn’t fear doing experimental films. He did Ante Sundaraniki despite the obvious risk involved. And even though that movie flopped commercially, he did Hi Nanna, which is a multiplex subject.

The film might or might not find a large set of audiences in the era of OTT. Director Shouryuv pens a few conventional ideas except for the father-daughter sentiment, the husband-wife emotions and the climax work.

Verdict: Hi Nanna is an emotional drama. It is worth a watch despite some misses. It’s an absolutely family watch.
