The escalating rift between Tamil film industry giants, Dhanush and Nayanthara, shows no signs of abating. Amidst their ongoing legal tussle, Nayanthara’s husband, acclaimed director Vignesh Shivan, has decided to deactivate his X (formerly Twitter) account.
Vignesh Shivan, known for his directorial ventures, found himself amidst controversy following a roundtable discussion on pan-India films. Critics were quick to point out that his previous film, ‘Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal’, did not fit the pan-India mold, and the same was said about his upcoming project, ‘Love Insurance Kompany’. Despite facing online backlash, neither Vignesh nor his team has released an official statement regarding the deactivation of his X account. However, he remains active on Instagram, continuing to share posts without addressing his departure from Twitter.
The controversy surrounding the couple intensified when Nayanthara publicly criticized actor Dhanush. Dhanush had previously sent Nayanthara a legal notice demanding compensation for using clips from his film ‘Naanum Rowdy Dhaan’ without proper permission in her documentary ‘Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale’. In response, Nayanthara penned an open letter to Dhanush on Instagram, expressing her disappointment. She accused Dhanush of attempting to halt the documentary’s release and highlighted her struggles as a self-made woman in the film industry.
The legal skirmish took a new turn on November 27 when Dhanush filed a civil lawsuit against Nayanthara in the Madras High Court. The lawsuit accuses Nayanthara of using footage from ‘Naanum Rowdy Dhan’ in her Netflix documentary without his consent. Both Nayanthara and her husband, filmmaker Vignesh Shivan, have been named as defendants in the case.
As the drama unfolds, all eyes are on the court proceedings and the responses from the involved parties. Stay tuned for more updates on this high-profile legal battle and its impact on the Tamil film industry.
