Narayana & Co Movie Review, Rating

‘Narayana & Co’ is the most important project for ‘Life Is Beautiful’ fame Sudhakar Komakula. He has co-produced the movie on Sukha Media, a name representing his (Sudhakar) and his wife’s (Harikha). The film was released on June 30 to a lukewarm response. The competition from re-releases (‘Tholi Prema’ and ‘Ee Nagaraniki Emaindi’) affected it very badly. New releases (‘Samajavaragamana’ and ‘SPY’) too took a toll on the movie’s openings.

Story:

PK Narayana (Devi Prasad) is a bank cashier. Nandu (Sudhakar) and Subbu (Jay Krishna) are his sons. The elder one is crazy about cricket betting. The younger one woos an aspiring model. Both become indebted. PK Narayana and his wife (Aamani) are joined by Nandu’s wife now.

They have to pool a large sum of money to save themselves. They join hands with an anti-social element in this crime comedy.

Performances:

Sudhakar Komakula does a good job in non-comedic roles. Comedy doesn’t suit him. Jay Krishna has potential but it has to be seen if he will use it. Devi Prasad doesn’t succeed at getting the comedy right. Saptagiri has no memorable role. Thotapalli Madhu is over-the-top.

Arati Podi is seen as a working wife, while Pooja Kiran of ‘Family Drama’ fame is seen as a modern girl who smokes. Shiva Ramachandrapu plays a morally deviant person with a sad backstory. Ali Reza of Bigg Boss fame is routine.

Merits:

The storyline.

The first 20 minutes.

Demerits:

Notoriously silly comedy.

No strong situations.

The motives of the characters are not played up well.

Cinematographer Rahul Shrivasthav delivers poor work. Srujana Adusumilli spoils some crucial scenes with shoddy editing.

The poor husband-wife track.

The ridiculous involvement of Ananth and other comedians in forced gags.

Verdict:

‘Narayana & Co’ is a wasted opportunity. The film had so much potential to entertain the audience. But the execution and the poor comedy leave the audience want to find the exit door.

Rating: 1.5
