“The Greatest of All Time” (GOAT) showcases Thalapathy Vijay in dual roles, portraying both a former Special Anti-Terrorist Squad (SATS) officer, MS Gandhi, and his son, Jeevan. The film revolves around Gandhi’s mission that jeopardizes his family life and his eventual reunion with his estranged son.
Thalapathy Vijay’s performance is the highlight of “GOAT,” with his star power and the impressive de-aging technology stealing the show. The film starts strong with engaging twists and turns, but the second half loses momentum, becoming predictable. Despite this, the explosive climax and Vijay’s charm manage to redeem the film to some extent. Director Venkat Prabhu capitalizes on Vijay’s appeal, but the wafer-thin plot and conventional narrative might not satisfy all viewers. The action sequences, especially the face-offs between the young and old Vijay, are a treat for fans. Overall, “GOAT” is a mixed bag, offering plenty of fan moments but falling short in terms of substance.
